Details
English name: Cupric carbonate, basic Copper carbonate hydroxide, Cupric subcarbonate,
Coppercarbonatebasic, Bremen blue, Bremen green, Coppercarbonatehydroxide
Molecular formula: CuCO3?Cu(OH)2
Molecular weight: 221.10
Properties:
Amorphous powder green to blue or dark green monoclinic crystal. 200 °C decomposition. Soluble in acid and aqueous ammonia, dissolved in acid and form corresponding copper salt, soluble in cyanide, sodium hydroxide, ammonium and alkali metal carbonate aqueous solution to form copper complexes. Insoluble in cold water, almost insoluble in water and ethanol. Solubility in water is 0.0008%. The relative density is 4.0. Low toxicity. Irritant. Prepare other cupric salts. Solid phosphor activator. Pesticides. Seed treatment fungicides. Paint pigments, copper- tin plated copper alloy industry as additives, as desulfurater in crude oil storage . Pure copper carbonate has not yet produced, only synthesized mixtures of CuCO3 ? 2H2O and Cu (NH3) 2CO3 .
Bright green malachite (CuCO3 ? Cu (OH) 2 and blue azurite (Cu3 (CO3) 2 (OH) 2 is the natural existence of two basic copper carbonate. There are a dozen forms of compounds by the different ratio of CuCO3: H2O .In industrial production, the formula is CuCO3 ? Cu (OH) 2 ? xH2O.
